Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve: Audubon Society of Western PA

Directions: -- 614 Dorseyville Rd. Pittsburgh, PA -- From the Allegheny Valley exit of the Turnpike, head west toward Pittsburgh on Freeport Rd. After about a mile and after the major shopping plaza, take a right onto Guys Run Rd. After about 3 miles, keep right at the fork in the road onto Fox Chapel Rd. Continue until the road ends at Dorseyville Rd, then turn left. Shortly after elementary school, the parking lot for the ASWP will be on your right. 

Description: Owned by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and managed by the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve protects 134 acres of forest and meadow to the northeast of Pittsburgh. Over 3 miles of trails traverse a variety of habitats that support a wide variety of plant and bird species. We will hope to see some of the tail end of migratory warblers, sparrows, thrush, and more that have been reported in good numbers from this property. In addition, the ASWP offers a gift shop with some quality bird products for anyone interested in shopping. 

Time and interest permitting, we may also choose to caravan to the nearby Hartwood Acres Park to explore more habitats. Historically the goldenrod fields along Saxonburg Rd. have hosted Connecticut Warblers, Lincoln’s Sparrows, Olive-sided Flycatchers, and even Sedge Wrens.
