Evening Vespers - Foggy Mountain Lodge / Spruce Flats Bog

Directions: We will begin at the Foggy Mountain Lodge.  The address is 117 Foggy Mountain Ln, Stahlstown. https://www.foggymountainlodge.com/ From Donegal, take Rt 711 North toward Stahlstown. Alternatively, from Rt 30 in Ligonier take 711 S to Stahlstown. Turn west onto Rt 130 and continue for about a mile. Turn right onto Distillery Rd. and follow signs for Foggy Mountain Lodge. After dinner we will drive to the parking lot at Spruce Flats bog.  For the bog, from Rt 711, drive six miles north to Darlington Rector Rd (Rt 381), turn south onto Route 381 to Rector.  In Rector, turn right onto Linn Run Road and drive 7.7 miles to Laurel Summit State Park.  Turn left as you approach the pavilion and drive into the parking lot.  Find a trail on the right side of the parking lot that leads to the bog boardwalk.   

 RSVP: Please make your dinner reservation to Georgia Shalek (contact above) no later than May 23.  The club is required to pay with one group bill, so please bring enough cash the night of to cover your meal + 18% gratuity. Drinks can be purchased separately at the bar. 

Description: An annual club tradition, join us for a group dinner at the Foggy Mountain Lodge followed by a leisurely walk to the haunting songs of thrushes and high elevation warblers at the Spruce Flats Bog. It is always a bit colder at the bog and may be muddy, although the actual viewing is from an elevated boardwalk. The bog contains many special flora including white spruce, blueberries, cranberries, cottongrass, and carnivorous sundews and pitcher plants.
