Description: The 3 rivers of Pittsburgh provide an excellent opportunity in the wintertime to see migrant waterfowl and gulls, with the occasional rare vagrant in the mix. Starting at the aptly-named Duck Hollow, we will spot for ducks, grebe, loons, and gulls on the Monongahela River to start the day. Spotting scopes encouraged if you have them! Following this, we will caravan to the Kamin Science Center on the north shore for an 11am screening of the conservation documentary Jane Goodall: Reasons for Hope in the Rangos Giant Cinema. Tickets will be provided by the club for all those in attendance (paid parking required). After the documentary has concluded, we can further scan the headwaters of the Ohio River across from the north shore walk and enjoy views of the city and Point State Park, an area well-known for attracting gulls and other waterfowl in winter. With luck, we may even spy a Peregrine Falcon on the hunt for pigeons! There are many good restaurants in the area and there will be an opportunity to further explore the Science Center exhibits (tickets for main exhibits at an additional charge) for those that chose to. Dress warm and bring an appetite for popcorn!
