The Big Sit

OCTOBER

This event happens in early October. The event is part birding and social. It counts the species and number of birds observed at one location which has been a specific picnic table at Keystone State Park. The picnic table is at the marsh platform across the road from the beach parking lot in Keystone State Park and It goes from midnight to midnight. Anyone can come any time, stay as long as you want and help us identify birds from the comfort of a chair. Bring a charcoal grill and cook your dinner there or bake some cookies for the birders. Several people will arrive before daybreak to listen for owls. We'll try to set some new records. Highest single day species total is 43 with 70 species overall for the past 6 years. Highest number total is 373 set in 2011. Look for the announcements in the WBNC Newsletter Syrinx.
