Description: As part of an effort to provide resources for people newer to the hobby of birding, the WBNC will be offering a new series of “Be a Better Birder” workshops centered on improving core identification skills in the hobby. To kick us off, we will be dialing in on one of birding’s most infamous topics; confusing fall warbler identification.
After an introductory lesson in the parking lot, we will make our way down the trails of Pleasant Valley Park in hopes of practicing our IDs on the many migrating warblers that stop over in the park’s varied habitat. This park is also known to host rarities such as Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Olive-sided Flycatcher, and Connecticut Warbler with some regularity.
This outing is intended for intermediate level birders, but all are welcome to participate and contribute to the discussion! Please be aware that some trails may be slightly overgrown, steep, and/or muddy. Porta-potties are available at the trailhead.
